First time receiving Direct Student Loans...have you completed loan requirements?

  • Students who have a Direct Student Loan are required to complete loan requirements before the loan can be applied to the student bill.
  • To ensure that your semester loans are processed in a timely manner, we recommend that you complete the following steps as soon as possible. Failure to do so will delay the disbursement of your semester loan(s). 

Entrance Counseling –Sign in with your FSA ID and password at //studentloans.gov. Once logged into your account, choose the “Complete Counseling” tab and be sure to choose "Entrance Counseling".  Please allow  20-30 minutes to finish this process online. 

Master Promissory Note (MPN) – Sign in with your FSA ID and password at //studentloans.gov.  Once logged into your account, choose “Complete Loan Agreement” and be sure to choose “Subsidized/Unsubsidized” for the type of loan you receiving.

Many of today's  students are struggling to pay their student bills. Luckily there are additional loan options available to help. 

The Direct PLUS Loan for a Parent

The Federal Direct PLUS Loan for Parents is a federal loan program for parents who wish to access additional loan resources beyond what a dependent student is eligible to receive. The parent borrower is responsible for repayment of this loan. More information about the PLUS Loan can be located under Types of Financial Aid/Federal Direct Plus Loan.

Private Alternative Educational Loans

Private Alternative Loans are educational loans from a bank that help students who may be in need of further financial assistance for educational costs. Because these loans are from private institutions, they often have their own eligibility requirements. 500 Internal Server Error-澳彩网

Internal Server Error

The server encountered an internal error and was unable to complete your request. Either the server is overloaded or there is an error in the application.

Academic Progress and is ineligible for federal financial aid programs. If a student chooses an Alternative Loan, he or she is urged to always borrow conservatively and only borrow what is needed. Financial Aid Application Timeline

The financial aid application process is one that occurs over several months throughout the year. Please access the calendar below to help guide you through.

Timeframe Tasks to complete

October

  • File your FAFSA for the upcoming school year and be sure to list LHU on your FAFSA. LHU’s school code is 003323.
  • PA Residents should complete the State Grant Form immediately after filing the FAFSA if this is the first time receiving a PA State Grant. Follow the link on the FAFSA application just after submitting the FAFSA application.

December

  • Begin searching for outside scholarships
  • Accepted LHU Students who have a FAFSA on file will receive a Financial Aid Award Letter in early December. Once the financial aid is awarded, a student can view it online via the myHaven portal.

March

  • Make sure that your complete, signed FAFSA is submitted by LHU’s Priority Filing date of March 15h
  • All paid students whose FAFSA was selected for verification review, will also receive a verification request by mail. Please complete and return within 30 days.

April

  • PA Residents: If you did not yet file your FAFSA, make sure it is filed before the end of the month to avoid missing the PA State Grant deadline (May 1, 2018).

June

  • Complete Direct Loan requirements, Entrance Counseling and a Master Promissory Note. See award letter for details.
  • Forward copies of outside scholarship notifications to the Financial Aid Office.

July

  • Receive your student bill from the Student Accounts Office (your processed financial aid will appear on the bill)
  • Apply for additional loan (Direct PLUS Loan for a parent or Private Loan) if needed to cover expenses not covered by awarded aid. Most Private loans take approximately 4-5 weeks to completely process.

August

  • Assure that all financial aid requirements are complete for the start of the fall semester by reviewing the fall semester bill online. Billing information can be located via myHaven under the “Student Accounts” tab.
